Good afternoon and welcome to Note of Strength.
Normally this lands in your inbox around 7 a.m. to kick the week off. Today it’s 2:05 p.m. And honestly, that’s kind of the point.
This morning we woke up in Florida ready to head home. Bags packed. Schedule set. Let’s roll. Then the notification came through: Flight canceled. Not delayed. Not pushed back a few hours. Canceled and the next available flight isn’t until Wednesday.
You can feel the resistance kick in immediately. You want to fix it. Solve it. Force the day back into the plan you had in your head.
But the reality is simple, there’s nothing we can do about it.
Sometimes life just doesn’t go according to plan. And when that happens, resistance has a way of narrowing how we see the moment. It clouds our thinking and often keeps us from taking the best action available right now.
When the outcome is completely outside your control, we’re left with one powerful option, change the story inside our head.
The moment we accept the situation, something interesting happens. We get your agency back. Instead of fighting the moment, we step into it. Instead of wishing things were different, we engage with what’s actually in front of us.
Acceptance doesn’t mean we like what happened. It simply means we stop wasting energy resisting what already is.
And when that resistance drops, that when the presence shows up. We notice the day again. The people around us. The unexpected time. The opportunity hidden inside the inconvenience.
Because joy isn’t waiting somewhere in the future when everything finally goes according to plan. Joy is available in the moment we’re standing or in my case, sitting in.
We don’t control the flight schedule, but we always control our attitude and our actions. And the moment you stop fighting reality, we realize something powerful,
The situation didn’t steal our day.
Our resistance did.
